A Concept Screen (and how I make them)

I made this concept screen using the Overworld Mockup Generator on the Demirrimon website!

(Note: Tileset is extremely basic for now, will be majorly improved in the future)

It was mainly a test to see how good my sprites fit in with my general design idea for the abandoned pizzeria area you start the game in. Since Chica is the only overworld sprite I have finished, I reused an Among Us sprite I made as a placeholder NPC.

Honestly, i'm really proud of how good my Undertale styled sprite making skills are becoming. By the time this game eventually gets made it's gonna look GREAT!

How I Made It

I also wanted to say how I made this in the first place. I use PiskelApp to make all the sprites used, and I use the Overworld Mockup Generator on the Demirramon website to make the actual shot. The main problem I have when making these is making the maps themselves, as there's not really a good site I could find that allows me to make maps with tiles and save them as PNGs. I DID find a workaround though.

So I make my tileset, export it as a 20x20 spritesheet, and go to this website I found that allows me to make maps using my tilesets. The problem I face is that I can't save them as images, only a JSON file. So I use my school Chromebooks built in screenshot feature to screenshot the map and import it in. It's important that the sprites are 20x20 because otherwise the map is large in comparison to the characters.

After I get the screenshot of the map, I make the mockup image and see how it looks. If it looks bad, I either improve my tileset or the character sprites themselves to fit in better. So that way, I will know if it'd look good in an actual game.

These mockups really help we when designing my sprites, so i'm really glad the generator exists.
